The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa-Solo, Jacen
is strong in the Force like his mother. He and his twin sister, Jaina, were born 5 years after the Battle of Endor, and because the
New Republic was under attack by the forces of Grand Admiral Thrawn at the time, they
were raised in hideaways, first on New Alderaan and then on Anoth, under the guidance of
Leia's trusted aide and childhood friend, Winter. When they were 2, the twins were
brought back to their parents to live on Coruscant, cared for mostly by C-3PO and
Chewbacca. It was during this time that the twins became friends with the orphaned
scavenger Zekk, who lived with the freighter
pilot Pekhum in the lower levels of the planet. With his father's unruly dark hair and
his mother's deep brown eyes, Jacen is a true lover of nature. He keeps a variety of
pets and samples of many plants in his quarters on Yavin 4. Jacen's Force-sensitivity
manifests itself in strong communication abilities, particularly with other Jedi and
many animal species.
Powerful in the Force, before his third birthday he helped defend the Jedi Academy from
the spirit of the Dark Lord Exar Kun. Kun sent ancient flying beasts to attack my near-
lifeless body, and Jacen wielded my lightsaber to defend me. Later, Jacen joined forces
with the Jedi students to destroy Kun's spirit forever and reunited my spirit and body.
When he was 5, he, Jaina, and their younger brother, Anakin, were kidnapped by Lord Hethrir, the former Imperial Procurator
of Justice, who wanted to use them to further his own Dark Side ambitions. While his
captives, they befriended the Chironian girl, Lusa,
who would later come to study at the Academy. The twins enrolled at the Jedi Academy at
the age of 13 and became fast friends with Chewbacca's nephew, Lowbacca, and Tenel Ka, the
daughter of Teneniel Djo of Dathomir and Prince Isolder of Hapes. The twins and Lowie
were at one point kidnapped by the Shadow Academy, where an unsuccessful attempt was
made by my former student, Brakiss, to turn
them to the Dark Side, even going so far as tricking the twins into fighting each other
with lightsabers. Though they managed to get away, the Second Imperium found a willing
replacement in their old friend Zekk, whom Brakiss convinced to join the Shadow Academy
and become its Darkest Knight.
With the threat of the Shadow Academy looming over all our heads, I felt it necessary
for the twins and their friends to construct their own lightsabers. They were more than
excited at this prospect, though Jacen was a little nervous due to Brakiss's
manipulation. He used a corusca gem for his saber that he found while visiting Lando at
his GemDiver Station in the gas-giant Yavin. Meanwhile, Tenel Ka, feeling that the tool
was insignificant compared to the user, hastily built her saber with faulty components.
While Jacen and Tenel Ka were sparring, her lightsaber shorted out, and Jacen's blade
cut off her left arm below the elbow. We were all shaken by this shocking event, but
none more so, I think, than Jacen.
The young Jedi forged ahead, however. Investigating the disappearance of Bornan Thul,
the father of fellow Jedi student Raynar Thul,
led them to the Diversity Alliance, an anti-human group led by the female Twi'lek Nolaa
Tarkona. Tarkona was hunting for a storehouse of diseases, one of which could kill
every human in the galaxy. The twins were tipped off by their friend Lusa, who had
fallen in with the Alliance but escaped. The twins managed to stop the devious plot,
but at the loss of Bornan Thul. They then went on to stop the civil war on the planet
Anobis, home planet of their new friend, Anja
Gallandro. She was a lackey of Black Sun's newest leader, Czethros, an old "friend"
of Han Solo's, who ordered her to kill his children. After she learned that Solo didn't
kill her father as previously suspected and that Czethros was minuplating her, she
turned on him. Jacen had a slight crush on Anja, I think, and was sorry to see her go
off to work for Lando.
I took Jacen and Anakin on as my apprentices after their graduation from the Academy.
The brothers seemed to be growing increasingly divergent in their respective beliefs in
the Force. Anakin believed that it should be used to its fullest extent, while Jacen
saw it as a personal entity and that Jedi should remove themselves from the galaxy at
large. His personal beliefs aside, Jacen can be quite impulsive at times. Shortly
after the invasion by the Yuuzhan Vong began, Jacen and Jaina launched a plan to
reconnoiter the Vong baseworld of Helska IV. Jaina acted as pilot, while Jacen drove a
mole miner into the planet. There he witnessed the brutal death of Jedi Knight Miko Reglia and helped save the ExGal scientist Danni Quee. Jacen has been on the front line often
during the Vong invasion. He fought at Dantooine, holding back Chazrach footsoldiers;
participated in a recon mission with Corran Horn
and Ganner Rhysode; defended the planet Ithor.
At Ithor, the Jedi underwent a cleansing ritual by the Ithorian priest so that they
could step on the sacred soil. Each Jedi had to admit and confront a personal fault;
Jacen's was his constant need to know what the future holds. I hope that Jacen keeps
this in mind during the trials ahead, and remembers his capture by the Vong during our
recon mission to Belkadan, where he tried to make a supposed Force vision come true. He
is at a precarious point in his development as a Jedi. His disagreement with Anakin on
the essential nature of the Force and what constitutes crossing to the Dark Side may
have caused the inadvertant destruction of 3/4 of the Hapan fleet at Fondor when
Centerpoint Station was fired. I hope Jacen remembers to look for the forest as well as
the trees.
Though Jacen is conflicted over how to use his powers in the Force, he still wants to do
good. For a while he flew on the Millennium Falcon with his parents, cutting off Vong
supply and slave routes. He was just as conflicted about attacking the Vong in this
respect as he was in using his Force-powers. Thankfully though, he settled his
differences with his father and continues to do his part in the war effort. He volunteered
to go with the strike team that went to Myrkr to destroy the voxyn queen, the creature
that was cloned into a hoard of Jedi-hunting death machines. Jacen's ability to unite the
team in a kind of battle-mind kept the operation running smoothly for awhile. However, it
wasn't enough to keep all the Jedi alive on the mission. Among others to fall to the
Vong was his own brother Anakin. In Jacen's defense, even with this crushing blow to the
team's spirit as well as his own personal loss, Jacen managed to destroy the voxyn queen.
However, he was captured in the process.
